My name is Sierra Lyda and I graduated from UNC in December of 2015, earning degrees with highest distinction in Psychology and Communications. I'm now working through Sweeps to help pay for law school which I am currently attending at UNC. I love to paint, dance, play tennis and soccer, travel, and meet new people. I am someone who will work hard to do whatever I am tasked with because I believe that if you are going to do something you should do it to the best of your ability. I also recognize that when I work for someone else I am representing both myself and the company, so I will do everything in my power to promote a positive reputation.
When it comes to cleaning, I am generally a person others look to. I was raised in a military family where cleanliness was required, and I thoroughly enjoy cleaning as it helps me relieve stress. I have experience cleaning rooms of every kind, from bathrooms to kitchens to bedrooms with carpet or hardwood as I used to clean my grandparents homes to get spending money in high school. I also managed an art store two years ago that required extensive cleaning on a weekly basis, and learned to be very thorough while at the same time handling delicate objects. I know how to clean well, and I can guarantee that I do not cut corners while doing it.
I am chair of the UNC Scholars' Cultural Engagement Fund, and am responsible for planning events throughout the semester for the students who are in the scholars program. This year alone, I have helped organized and put together a dance showcase, a series of update events on Syria, a talent show, and a language crash course seminar. I also have experience planning events from where I worked this summer at Airbnb as an intern. I was on a team that coordinated surprise parties and gifts for guests staying with Airbnb.
I am a highly organized person, and have a lot of experience organizing files both digital and in paper, as part of my job as an intern this past summer was helping work through a backlog and organize the information more efficiently. I keep everything of my own highly organized, and am able to transfer that same level of organization to whatever task I am assigned.
I have a lot of experience tutoring students who are both my age and younger. I am a Carolina Firsts mentor, which means I help tutor first years and help them adjust to college level academics, and I also help tutor peers in my courses every semester. I have a lot of experience with teaching material to others, and am willing to work with every person so that they feel comfortable with the material.
I have gone on numerous mission trips over the years with my church's youth group to the coast of NC and to New Orleans following Katrina to build and paint homes for people, so I have a lot of experience painting. I also spent the last 3 years helping my parents remodel our home, which included painting both the interior and exterior, so when it comes to painting homes I am very comfortable. On an artistic level I also paint, so if it was painting on a smaller scale I am able to that, too.
I have extensive experience with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and am well versed with social media sites if anyone requires help in those aspects of technology.
Pleasant, helpful, ready and willing to do whatever was needed.
